On 17 September 1994, after exactly 200 years of service, The Gordon Highlanders amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Highlanders to form 1st Battalion The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).

In March 2006, the British Army evolved again. This time the six Scottish infantry regiments were joined together to form a new large regiment – The Royal Regiment of Scotland. 1st Battalion The Highlanders became The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4SCOTS), who have seen tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is within this new identity that the legacy of The Gordon Highlanders continues to live on as a powerful inspiration to the men and woman of the British armed forces.
