India – Expanding The British Empire
As well as fighting the French in Europe, Britain was expanding its presence in India. In 1787, a new Regiment called the 75th Highlanders was raised, this newly formed Regiment spent the next 20 years in southern India, fighting to extend British rule. In 1881, the 75th merged with the 92nd, becoming the 1st Battalion The Gordon Highlanders.
