Child dressed up in uniform in Grant Room exhibition

WWII Workshop
Pupils will be sent on a mission to find out about a mystery soldier who fought during World War Two. Through handling and exploring original objects and documents, pupils will discover who he was, what his equipment was like, what type of uniform he wore (and get the chance to try them on!) and understand what it might have felt like to serve as a Gordon Highlander during World War Two.

This workshop has been developed with Summerhill Education Centre and meets the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence. If you would like more information on the links to the Curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact Tess, our Education & Outreach Officer.

The workshop is divided into four study points, each lasting around 20 minutes. Your class is divided into smaller groups (one adult for 10 children) and will move around the study points.

WWII Resource Pack
This Education Resource Pack is aimed at supporting primary school teachers in the teaching of World War Two and is designed to meet the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence.

The pack contains six cross-curricular lesson plans covering Science, Mathematics, Art & Design, Drama, English Language and Environmental Studies. It is complemented by the use of quotes from civilians and veterans who lived through the war, as a starting point for each lesson.

The cover over the pack has been produced by secondary pupils from Aberdeen city schools who were encouraged to respond visually to veterans’ statements.

For a copy of the pack, please contact the Museum. Or download it from the links provided below.
