Do you have a family history enquiry relating to The Gordon Highlanders?

Here at the Museum, we have an extensive archive relating to the history of the Regiment. War diaries, letters, poems, soldiers' diaries, scrapbooks and photo-albums are among the rich store of primary source materials available to you.

Need some help? A team of experienced volunteer researchers is available to assist you with your enquiry. However, before you submit your enquiry we recommend that you visit our "Research Sources" section.

We regret that we are unable to respond to any telephone enquiries regarding research requests. All requests must be made in writing, either by email or letter and must be accompanied by the designated fee.

The Museum's new research service charges are as follows:

  1. There is a £15 fee charged for a basic enquiry. If we find that we do not hold any information on your enquired subject you will be informed, this fee is waived and your enquiry ends.
  2. If we find a lot of material and information regarding your enquiry, advanced level research is undertaken on an incremental scale thereafter. We will notify you in advance after the initial £15 fee is processed how much the extra work will equate to financially.
  3. Charges on the incremental scale include fees for the photocopying of documents, scans and e-mailed jpegs of photographs and also reprographic and copyright charges. The volunteer researcher dealing with your request will discuss an agreed fee with you.
  4. If you wish to use any of our material from an enquiry for publicity purposes or for use in a publication of any kind, please put your request in writing to the Executive Director at the address below.

Please be aware that due to an increase in the volume of recent research enquiries it may take up to 6 - 8 weeks for your enquiry to be processed. We do aim to answer your enquiries as expiditiously as possible with the resources available to us at the time of your enquiry.

Please also be aware that the museum is an independently financed museum which receives no external core funding. The money we generate from the research service is ploughed back into the museum to cover our operating costs.

Thank you,

C.M. Petty

Executive Director.
